A few people have asked me about my secret project, or specifically wanted to know why I have kept it a secret. So I thought I would answer to everyone in a blog post.
With most of my work, I give you a sense for the idea as I write it. For example, my novel scheduled for release in January 2014 has to do with pirates and a witch. No secret there, other than that I would never want to reveal a spoiler or something that would detract from reading the novel because you already know, for example, that Dorothy kills the witch and gets back to Kansas before you watch the movie.
But this secret project is different. Different in that it is a departure from my other stuff, even though it still technically falls in the LGBT genre of horror. Different in that it has a unique take on something old and traditional.
This leads to two reason for the secrecy. First, when it is revealed, I want it to be an exciting reveal that will then generate a buzz leading up to its eventual release. I hope it makes a bit of a splash. Second, I’m a little paranoid. I don’t want anyone stealing my idea before it gets out there. Sure, somebody could copycat it eventually, but I want as much as possible for people to know it was my idea, first.
